In the late evening, on July 2, 1863, General William Barksdale led his Mississippi brigade on an explosive charge towards Union troops, resulting in deadly, rarely seen hand-to-hand combat. The 13th Mississippi Regimental flag in this scene was based on the very one that still rests at the Mississippi State Historical Museum.
